Will you charge me even if you can’t fix it?

I get this question from time to time — and it’s completely fair.

Here’s how I handle it:

I charge $75 up front. That covers the first part of the labor and allows me to fully diagnose the problem — not just guess.
After 22 years in this business and over 25,000 computers repaired, I can usually give a reliable quote based on what you tell me and what I’ve seen before.

If anything turns out different than what I initially suspected, I’ll call you right away — and you’ll have a choice to make:


Option 1:

Give me the go-ahead to continue and agree to the quoted cost for parts and full repair. I’ll finish the job and get you back up and running.

Option 2:

Decide to stop right there. No problem — you won’t owe anything more.
You’ll get your computer back in pieces (if it was taken apart), or I can recycle it for you.

Option 3:

Ask me to reassemble the system — even if it’s not working.
In that case, I’ll finish the labor and you’ll pay the remaining balance of the flat labor fee.
