  • New build will not POST. Motherboard stops on the DRAM/RAM debug light.
  • New Build
  • By turning on the computer.
  • System powered on but would not POST or reach BIOS with the original CPU installed. Motherboard CPU diagnostic light remained illuminated. With a known-good CPU and one known-good 16GB DDR5 RAM module installed in DIMM A2, the system successfully POSTed to BIOS.

Diagnosis

Tests performed: Known-good CPU, Complete disassembly. Removed GPU, SSD, RAM, CPU, Shorted Bios Battery, Used Good CPU and 1 stick Ram, computer post to Bios. Put Original CPU in computer, no post, tried original CPU and GPU, same error light, no post.

Actual cause

Bad CPU Ram, Mothboard, SSD, GPU

Repair options presented

  • Motherboard, RAM, SSD and graphics card were not replaced. Testing with a known-good CPU proved that the motherboard and supporting hardware could successfully POST, isolating the original processor as the failed component.

Outcome

Computer now POSTs and boots normally with the replacement CPU installed. Extended benchmark and stress testing completed successfully with stable temperatures and no crashes, shutdowns or recurrence of the original no-POST condition. Repaired and verified Failed processor was confirmed through component isolation testing. Replacement AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D was installed. Computer now POSTs, boots normally and passed extended stress testing. Repair completed successfully and system is ready for customer pickup.

Technician notes

The key diagnostic step was substituting a known-good CPU while leaving the motherboard and other core hardware unchanged. The computer immediately POSTed with the test processor but returned to the same no-POST condition when the customer's original CPU was reinstalled. This isolated the processor as the failure without unnecessarily replacing the motherboard, RAM, SSD or graphics card. After installing the replacement Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the system passed extended stress testing, including approximately 1 hour 25 minutes of FurMark testing with the RTX 3060 at 100% GPU load.
