Short answer
Check the printer's screen, paper, ink or toner, and connection. Then clear a stuck print queue and print a test page. Do not remove the printer until you know its model and password.

Check the printer itself
Make sure it is on, has no error message, has paper, and the correct ink or toner. A flashing light usually tells you more than the computer does.

For Wi-Fi, confirm the printer and computer are on the same home network. For USB, try another port and avoid an unpowered hub.

Check the print queue
Open the printer queue and cancel only stuck jobs. A paused or offline setting can stop every document behind it.

Print a test page
Use the printer's own menu if possible. If it prints a test page, the printer is working and the computer connection or driver needs attention.
What not to do
- Do not press Print repeatedly; it can create a long queue.
- Do not install a driver from an advertisement or random download site.
- Do not factory-reset the printer until you know the Wi-Fi password and setup information.
When to get help
If the printer works from one device but not another, or disappeared after a router or Windows update, the problem is usually setup rather than a dead printer. Bring the exact model and the error message so the connection can be restored without guessing.

- Why does the printer say offline?
- It may be asleep, on another Wi-Fi network, disconnected from the router, or held by a paused queue. Check the printer screen and queue first.
- Should I reinstall the printer?
- Not as the first step. Check the network and queue, then reinstall only if the device is truly missing or its driver is damaged.
