What Is AnyDesk, and Is It Safe?

AnyDesk is legitimate remote-access software, but a stranger asking you to install it is a serious warning sign.

Short answer

AnyDesk is a real support tool that lets another person control a computer. Use it only with a technician or person you trust, and remove access after legitimate help is finished.

The important difference

The software is not automatically malware. The danger is who asked you to install it and what they did while connected. Microsoft, your bank, and security companies do not normally call out of the blue and demand remote access.

If you use it for real support

  1. 1

    Start the session yourself

Download AnyDesk only from its official site or a technician's direct instructions. Never follow a popup phone number.

  2. 2

    Watch the permission

Read what the connection allows. Stay at the computer and do not share banking passwords or verification codes.

  3. 3

    End the session

Close the program and remove unattended access if it was enabled. Ask what was installed or changed.

  4. 4

    If a stranger connected

Disconnect, change important passwords from another trusted device, and read what to do after remote access.

Never do this

  • Do not let an unsolicited caller 'show' you a problem.
  • Do not type bank passwords while someone is watching your screen.
  • Do not pay a caller because a remote scan showed scary names.

Common questions

AnyDesk is legitimate remote-access software. It becomes dangerous when an untrusted person uses it to control your computer.
Should I uninstall AnyDesk after support?
If you do not need ongoing support, removing it and checking unattended access is a sensible safety step.
